We would advise that as soon as you have booked your venue to get in touch. Our wedding cakes are intricately detailed and hand made which takes an incredible amount of time so the number of cakes we can take on in any given week is limited. The dates between April and September fill up extremely quickly, sometimes in excess of 12 months in advance. Deposits to secure your date are £100.00 with the remainder payable 4 weeks before your wedding date, please note that your date is not secure or pencilled in until agreed and a booking form and deposit has been received. Opening hours are 10am – 5pm, Monday – Friday and Saturdays by appointment only.
Please note that we are fully booked for wedding cakes for 2021 and have very limited availability for 2022. Our diary isn’t currently open for 2023 weddings.
Consultations are a great and informal way of meeting each other face to face. You can taste samples from the menu which can be tried at the consultation or boxed to take home. I try to get a feel for your wedding at the consultation so it is always helpful to bring any items such as magazine clippings, dress and ribbon samples or even your invitations to assist me in designing the perfect cake! Even a style of venue can dictate the sort of cake you opt for, for example a small two tiered cake may get lost in a grand hallway or a buttercream iced cake may wilt in the heat of a summer marquee. Consultations are £25.00, by appointment only and usually last about an hour, should you decide to book this amount is deducted from your deposit (deduction only applies to order values over £400 and subsequent consultations do incur a charge but are not usually necessary, if you’re order value is under £400 you’re still welcome to have a consultation but the £25 fee will apply ). Consultations are strictly for two people only. In some circumstances it may be impossible to attend a consultation so I’m happy to conduct one over the telephone or via email and post your samples to you. Postal boxes are charged at £18.00 and contain 8 – 9 different samples of cake.
I’M NOT QUITE SURE WHAT I WANT?
That’s not a problem you can initially just give me a call on 01473 255869 or email at email@example.com and we can either arrange a consultation or I can give you some ideas. We actually prefer to design bespoke cakes for all of our couples, it makes our job more fun! We are often sent pictures by other cake designers and are asked if we can recreate them. This is something we prefer not to do but we’re happy to be influenced by the style that you have chosen to come up with something that is uniquely yours. We often hear that a couple are opting for a naked cake or a buttercream finish because they don’t like icing but we have been known to convert couples with our unique tasting ganache coating which, either on it’s own, or combined with our Swiss patisserie fondant is delicious. Remember that, due to the way a wedding cake is portioned the amount of icing will typically only be an inch square anyway.
DO YOU DELIVER THE WEDDING CAKE?
In 99% of weddings, yes! I personally deliver and set up your wedding cake on your wedding day to ensure that it arrives in pristine condition and is left looking glorious for your arrival at your wedding reception. I can deliver a wedding cake UK wide. Delivery within a 10 mile radius of our address in Ipswich is included on orders over £200.00. Additional mileage will be quoted for at cost. Should you want to collect and transport your wedding cake yourselves the cake will be supplied in a sturdy box but please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for any damage the cake might incur once it has left our kitchen.
WHAT SIZE CAKE WILL I NEED AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Iced, tiered cakes are generally served in finger portions which in the case of an Amelie’s Kitchen cake is around 6 inches deep and 1 inch square. As a rough guide to serving sizes:
Two tier cakes:
4” and 6” round cakes will give 30 – 35 portions.
6” and 8” round cakes will give 60 – 70 portions.
Three tier cakes:
4”, 6” and 8“ round cakes will give 70 – 80 portions.
6”, 8” and 10” round cakes will give 120 – 140 portions.
Four tier cakes:
4”, 6”, 8“ and 10” round cakes will give 130 – 150 portions.
6”, 8”, 10” and 12” round cakes will give 180 – 210 portions.
Decorations are priced according to design and intricacy, it is often underestimated how long a cake can take to produce, especially bespoke designs so please take this into consideration when ordering. All cakes will be clearly quoted for. You can choose from intricate sugar flowers and mouldings, piped details, ribbons and rice paper flowers to create a wow factor cake. Should you want to include fresh flowers or a topper that you have purchased then that is not a problem and can be discussed at the time of your consultation.
CAN YOU ADD FAKE TIERS?
Fake tiers are often incorporated to add impact to a cake, especially if you want the impact of a large, tall cake but only want to serve a small number of guests. Pricing isn’t as straightforward as there are so many configurations of cake that you could go for.
DO YOU HIRE OUT CAKE STANDS?
We do, we have an ever growing collection including the popular milk glass stands often seen in wedding magazines. The cost of hiring a stand is £10 with a £70 refundable breakages deposit. We ask, if possible, that stands are returned on the Monday or the Tuesday following the wedding. All of our stands are on display in our consultation area should you choose to have a consultation. Cake stands are currently only available to hire for our wedding cake customers.
